On Friday, Nov. 11, more than 100 U.S. flags will be raised for Jamestown’s annual Veterans Day ceremony held at East Ferry, with guest speakers scheduled to address the crowd at 11 a.m. Volunteers are needed to help raise the flags at East Ferry at 7 a.m., and are also needed to lower the flags at 3 p.m. The flags are from the families of island veterans and date back to the Spanish-American War. Jamestown resident Lt. Col. John J. Cooper will address the crowd at 11 a.m. Cooper is a student at the Newport War College and a graduate of the Air Force Academy. He is a U.S. Air Force pilot who flies the Boeing RC-135 aircraft.
