E-waste collection at clubhouse next week

Local homeowners will be able to recycle their electronic waste from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 17 at the Jamestown Golf Course, 245 Conanicus Ave.

The service is being provided by Indie Cycle, a Charlestown company founded in 2010 to reduce dependence on the Johnston landfill. By collecting electronics to refurbish and reuse, this waste is not buried at the landfill, which is expected to reach capacity in 2034 at the current daily rate of 3,800 tons of trash.

Indie Cycle will accept computers, servers, routers, keyboards, speakers, microphones, mice, televisions, monitors, hard drives, motherboards, daughter boards, CD-ROMs, fax machines, typewriters, scanners, toner cartridges, cameras, calculators, cell phones, cordless phones, iPods, chargers, automobile batteries, cables, wires, stereos, console gaming systems, cassette players, remote controls, toasters, microwaves, toaster ovens, blenders and vacuum cleaners.
