Foolish regatta among events to be approved

People should start marking their calendars following approval by the town council for three events to be hosted this summer.

The biennial Windmill Day, sponsored by the Jamestown Historical Society, is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 22 at the historic 1787 landmark on North Road. The free event will feature live music, pizza, gelato, a grass labyrinth, cornhole and children’s crafts. The cloths will be raised on the sails, and the bonnet will be turned so the sails catch the breeze. Admission is free.

The Fools’ Rules Regatta, which pits amateur boatbuilders with constructor sailing “vessels” using items not intended for marine use, is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 19 at the beach at East Ferry. There is no cost to patriciate.

A week later, Aug. 26, there will be Sunflower Family Festival on the Lawn School campus for the second consecutive year. Sponsored by the Jamestown Ukraine Relief Project, proceeds will benefit the nonprofit organization’s mission to support Ukraine in the war against Russia.
