Jazz musician will play his saxophone Sunday

A 2016 inductee into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame will perform for free during a free concert from 6:30-8 p.m. on the Veterans Memorial Square at East Ferry.

Greg Abate, a jazz saxophonist who graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, will showcase his “high-driving bebop.” The Massachusetts native was the lead alto sax player for Ray Charles in the 1970s.

If it rains, the concert will be across the street at the recreation center, 41 Conanicus Ave. This is the sixth of eight concerts sponsored by the town as part of its summer series. The final two acts are Greg Sherrod and the Jamestown Community Band.
