Learn to make tamales during JAC workshop

There will be a tamale-making workshop from 3-6 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Jamestown Arts Center, 18 Valley St.

Jesus de la Torre, whose family’s recipe for making these cornmeal pockets have been handed down through generations, will lead the tamalada with his daughter, Maya. Tamales are a traditional Christmas food throughout Mexico and the American Southwest, and a tamalada is a tamale-making party where guests share stories, remember loved ones and gossip.

Ingredients have been donated by Condesa Restaurante Mexico in Warwick. Cost is $50 per person or $150 for a group of four people. Children under 10 are free. Each person will get six tamales and two recipes (pork and vegetarian).
