Lecture next week on Narragansett Bay forts

A military historian will present a free lecture on his new book, “Revolutionary War Defenses in Rhode Island,” at 2 p.m. May 3 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Ave.

The book by author John Robertson, a retired colonel with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was a 10-year research effort that contains almost 300 maps and plans showing defensive fortifications along the coast of Narragansett Bay. Maps include strongholds on Conanicut and Aquidneck islands, which were occupied during the Revolutionary War by the American, British, and French forces.

The free lecture is sponsored by the Jamestown Historical Society in partnership with the Battle of Rhode Island Association.
