From April 2 to April 8, the Jamestown Police Department responded to 389 calls for service. Officers performed 215 security checks of vacant homes and businesses.

The police also responded to 12 emergency calls, three animal complaints, two parking complaints and four alarms. There were 43 traffic stops, resulting in three arrests and nine traffic citations. Six of the tickets were issued by officers who were assigned to state enforcement program.

License

• Paul J. Fox, 33, of Ochre Point, Newport, was charged April 3 with driving with an expired license. The arrest was the result of traffic stop on North Road. Fox was issued a traffic citation and released at the scene. A court date was scheduled for April 26 at 2nd Division District Court in Newport.

• Matthew G. Leclair, 21, of Boulder View Drive, Warwick, was charged April 8 for driving with a suspended license. The arrest was the result of a traffic stop on North Road. The defendant was transported to the police station where he was processed and released. A court date was scheduled for April 19 at 2nd Division District Court in Newport.

Multiple charges

Shawn D. Kilroy, 39, of Ella Terrace, Newport, was charged April 7 with second-offense DUI, driving with a suspended license, and possession of heroin. According to police, officers responded to a complaint of a vehicle stopped in the lane of travel at the Newport Bridge toll plaza. Kilroy was allegedly passed out in the vehicle and the drugs were on the passenger seat, police said. The defendant was transported to the police station where he was processed and arraigned by a justice of the peace. A court date was scheduled for April 12 at 2nd Division District Court in Newport.

Incident report

• A Watson Avenue man was charged on April 4 with allowing his dog to roam free. It was the owner’s fourth offense. The dog was surrendered to the town. Police say the dog did “nip” a neighbor.

• Police were dispatched to East Shore Road on April 6 to a verbal confrontation in progress between a mother and daughter. No charges were filed.

• Police were dispatched to Intrepid Lane on April 7 for a person trespassing on private property. Police say the property owner knew the trespasser. A warning was issued.
