Town councilors aren’t experts of trailer parks

There have been a number of letters written to the Jamestown Press over the past few weeks concerning the trailer park at Fort Getty. One letter suggests that we do not charge enough. Another letter suggests that the rental fee stay the same so the “nonelite” will have a place at Fort Getty in the summer. Then there is a letter suggesting the Town Council is not doing right for the residents of Jamestown with regard to the Fort Getty property.

No one has asked the right question yet: Why are the Town Council and the employees of Jamestown trying to run a trailer park? The responsibility of the council and the town’s employees are to provide services to the taxpayers and the residents of Jamestown.

Should the residents of Jamestown wish to have a trailer park at Fort Getty, the land should be leased to a person or company whose business is operating a trailer park, just as we do with the golf course.

How about including a question on the November ballot asking the people if they want a trailer park at Fort Getty? You might also put a question on the ballot asking the people of Jamestown if they would like a mayor in place of a Town Council.
